Welcome Baby!
The McLoughlin family welcomed Baby Theodore on July 21st 2025 weighing 10lbs 12oz. Mama and the new baby are in good health. Harris is happy to be a big brother, and everyone is figuring out what life is like with two kids under two years. So far, it’s a lot of fun, and it’s a lot of work, and both parents are very tired. Overjoyed and tired.

IQQQ – Ironwood Quarterly’s Question of the Quarter
Question:
I have heard that there is a new risk to oak trees. What is it and how do I protect my oaks and keep them healthy?
Answer:
In the spring of 2023, the first confirmed detection of oak wilt was found in a residential area in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Oak Wilt, also called sudden oak wilt, is a vascular disease, caused by the fungus Bretziella fagacearum. The fungus develops on the outer sapwood of an infected oak, inhibiting the transport of water and nutrients. This disease can kill a mature oak tree within one growing season.
Discoloured leaves and vertical cracks in the bark are signs that your oak may be infected. It is important to report infections to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).
To decrease the risk of spreading oak wilt, it is important to only prune oak trees during the winter months (between November 1 and March 31). It is also important to never move firewood from one area to another.
